Privacy policy

Last updated 19 October 2026

Exegesis is a Bible study app, run as part of the Christian Exegesis Project. This page explains what information the app keeps, where it is kept, and the choices you have. In short: your study stays on your own device, and an account holds only your name and email address.

Using Exegesis without an account

You can use every study feature without an account. Your notes, highlights, study paths, reading plans, settings and any translations or files you add are saved in your web browser on your own device. They are not sent to us. Clearing your browser’s data for this site deletes them, so use Settings → Your data → Download a backup if you want a copy.

If you create an account

An account is optional. If you sign in with Google, we receive and keep:

We use this only to sign you in and to run your account. We never see your Google password. Signing in does not, by itself, copy your study to our servers — it stays on your device.

Cookies

When you sign in we set one essential cookie that keeps you signed in, and a short-lived one during sign-in itself. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies, and there are no third-party analytics.

Where information is kept

The site and account database are hosted by Cloudflare. Sign-in uses Google. Both act as service providers and may process data outside the UK under their own safeguards. We do not sell or share your information with anyone else.

Features that are not on yet

Syncing your study across devices and asking Claude (an AI assistant) questions will be part of Premium. Before either is switched on, this policy will be updated to explain exactly what is sent and stored.

How long we keep it, and your rights

Your account information is kept until you delete your account. You can delete it at any time in Settings → Account → Delete account, which removes your account and sign-in sessions from our servers straight away. You can also ask to see, correct or delete the information we hold, or object to how it is used, by emailing us. If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).

Children

Accounts are not intended for children under 13.
